Hallo hallo, one and all.
Today is leap day! Or as 30 rock has so graciously pointed out – a day that doesn’t count! I’m doning my blue shirt and yellow underwear with such pride, hoping that leap day William will make an appearance! Fingers crossed y’all!
One of the things I like most about this idea of Leap Day — is the chance to go out and do something you would not normally do. But just how do you define what that is? Eating something unusual? Well I do that all the time. Talking to someone I don’t know? I do that all the time too. Getting a tattoo? I’ve already got two! I just needed to find something that was out of my usual comfort zone, and while I wasn’t too sure what that might be, I embraced it baby!
As a personal rule, I never, ever, ever talk to celebrities when I see them in a public place because I find it obnoxious and self-important — why do they want to talk to me? What makes anyone think they want to hear about how “much they love them” and “how their music/film/tv show/book changed their life. They probably hear that about 1000 times a day. Anyhow, I’m not going to start that rant because it could go on for days, but suffice to say, I don’t do it. (Especially after the Rihanna / Lindsey / Rodeo Drive incident. yeesh.)
Last night I went out to dinner with a friend and we were discussing one of my favorite movies, the Sandlot, and this scene in particular.
The look on the guy’s face as he keeps repeating For. Ev. Er. is absolutely hilarious. The character in question — who’s narrating at that point of the movie — is Michael “Squints” Polladorous, and also happens to be my favorite character in the movie.
As I was youtubing various Sandlot clips last night I saw someone had posted a comment on another video about being friends with him on Facebook. Now that got my attention. A chance to “e-meet” a huge part of my childhood.
In addition to not speaking to celebrities, I also don’t add people I don’t know to Facebook because frankly I just find it very weird. This time though. I decided to make an exception. And because it was late last night when I added him, I’m going to consider that my “out of the ordinary” action for the day. Well let me tell you, HE ADDED ME BACK THIS MORNING. YEEEEEHAAAAAW!
Now I know he probably adds a lot of people this way, but it was a reminder that sometimes it’s important to go after whatever it is you want, regardless of how far out of your comfort zone it takes you. I went for it, it paid off and I’m fucking thrilled! So thank you Chauncey, you just made my week.
Well now it is time for me to go off and enjoy some free food, courtesy of the grand opening of our department at work. (a department that is still technically under construction, but hey, free food is free food.) (oh and all social networking has become unblocked at work! TALK ABOUT THE BEST DAY EVAR!)
So have a wonderful leap day everyone! Step out of your comfort zones, do something crazy, cause really, real life doesn’t start til March anyways!
