How was your Valentine’s Day weekend? Mine was terrific! My boyfriend came in from Edmonton to spend Saturday & Sunday with me and boy oh boy was I shocked! He quite literally showed up on my front door step and said ‘Sup?’ as I started to freak out (after my initial disbelief / resting bitch face reaction). We didn’t get up to much, just our usual; going out to eat, walking around town, and watching movies, but it was pretty perfect. It’s been a long time since I’ve dated anyone, and while long distance is not ideal, it’s been working so far and I’m embracing it! (And now working on a stellar birthday surprise for him…)
Anyways, that’s not what this post is about, it’s just a happy thing that happened :).
Valentine’s Day is one of those days that people either love or hate, but it has always been a very special day to me. I have a very clear memory of being in Kindergarten and serving the 3rd graders a Valentine’s snack of cookies and drinks. I also remember my mom buying me Aladdin valentines that same year. Every year after that, it was always one of my favorite days in school. The main reason is of course that we ended up spending the afternoon doing fun valentine activities, but two, because I just love valentines! My whole life I have loved hand written notes and Valentine’s day is just an excuse for me to get a ton of them! So what do I do to celebrate? I make valentines for my friends.
It’s a tradition I seem to pick up every couple years, whenever I have some time around Valentine’s Day. As I’m in between contracts right now, I worked on creating some cards for my friends. I try to make each one themed to the person it’s for, but sometimes I just go with a generic ‘love’ look. Not every inside joke lends itself to a great Valentine — especially when you’re working with glitter paper and cat calendar cutouts.
In past years, I’ve mostly worked in the paint/photoshop. I’ve included a couple of my favorites below :
Tobias Funke is just amazing.
This one was for Mikael, my 90s sports movie fan.
This one was for Lauren and it was right up her alley 🙂
And here my friends, we have the original Valentine, circa 2011. The Shemarentine. It’s perfect.
Another year, I thought it would be fun to send a bunch of my Vancouver chums some Justin Bieber valentines after I had moved back to Edmonton! They loved them! I think…
Everyone loves a little bit a Biebs.
...Okay so maybe not.
I always have fun making these and when I decided to make a card for my guy, I thought why not make a whole bunch for a bunch of my favorite people 🙂 Here are some of my favorites that I got pictures of before sending them off.
For Carrie, with Chihuahuas ❤
An inquisitive kitty for Celyne.
A black cat for Iva 🙂
Sent this one to my parents. It looks like our fat cat, Charlie.
These guys are pretty handsome.
These are the first ten I made. I made another 15 after that :).
But you know what I did? I forgot to mail a couple and I never managed to get out to see anyone because I ended up spending the weekend with my sweetheart haha. I guess some people will be getting them later this week and others will be getting them whenever we manage to meet up :).
Well that’s it for this post. I’m off to start my day and do some work for the Lawyer show, apply for jobs, and see what else life has in store!
Have a kick ass week, people!
